This is a tartan for the whole of Ayrshire which is a region on the west coast of Scotland, on the shores of the Firth of Clyde. It was much influenced by Norwegian incursions up until the Battle of Largs in 1263. The Battle of Largs was a battle between the kingdoms of Norway and Scotland, on the Firth of Clyde near Largs, Scotland. Through it Scotland achieved the end of 500 years of Norse Viking depredations and invasions despite being tremendously outnumbered, without a one-sided military victory in the ensuing battle .Ayr Council was established in1890 but in 1975 it was split into three councils North, East and South. South Ayrshire is one of thirty-two council areas of Scotland, covering the southern part of Ayrshire. It borders Dumfries and Galloway, East Ayrshire and North Ayrshire. On 30 June 2020, the population of South Ayrshire was 112,140.
